Against approximately 5-6 % of all EU-granted patents, an opposition is filed. The result of these oppositions is not always satisfying. In only 30% of the cases, opposition leads to completely revocation of the patent. More information is found in my publication: Successful European oppositions: Analysis for the patent information professional
(World Patent Information, Volume 35, Issue 2, June 2013, Pages 126-129).
As the European Patent Office use the Problem-Solution Approach (PSA principle) for granting a patent, it is important to understand the basics of an invention. Successful opposition search is therefore performed with a focus on novelty and particularly inventive step.
Patent Information Services B.V. is offering search support for opposition cases. In case you would like to oppose against a third party patent, we can help to find prior art to be used during the opposition procedure.
